Priorities
HD 97 needs a bold leader that knows how to navigate the State Capitol. Our community deserves a voice that can bring new ideas and perspectives to the table where decisions are made.
JeKia has the community roots to best represent HD 97, she is always ready to listen, learn, and problem solve.
Strong Public Schools
Strong public schools are the foundation of our state. The State Government has a duty to adequately fund our public school system to prepare our students for long term success.
HD 97 needs a champion that will prioritize public education, Oklahoma's families deserve it. We need to pay our teachers well in order to recruit and retain talent.
Jekia believes in keeping public dollars in public schools and protecting local control.
Bustling Economy & Strong Workforce
JeKia believes in prioritizing working Oklahomans. This means raising the minimum wage to make sure everyone can keep up with the rising costs of living.
JeKia understands the importance of tourism and agricultural development in HD 97. The Adventure District has great opportunities for job growth and creation while the rural landscape of portions of the district provides space for farming, breeding, and exploring new agricultural methods is a viable source of income.
The Olympics bringing softball to HD 97 is an opportunity for hotel, restaurant, and tourism development. Partnerships to receive grants through the Department of Tourism to help with signage, green space development, and publicity are a necessity for the success of not only that event but also future endeavors.
Housing for All
It is a fact we do not have enough affordable housing for our young adult families and seniors. As Oklahoma’s population ages, we must address their housing needs, as they may want to downsize or stay in their family home. Prepare generations for upkeep and care of their family homes. And ensure the cost of homes does not become too unreasonable for first-time homeowners.
We are all one paycheck away from homelessness. Oklahoma’s growth in the urban cores and the boom and bust of the economy have all had a significant impact on the increase of Unhoused Oklahomans. We must create thoughtful solutions that address all reasons for homelessness.
Accessible Healthcare
The zip codes in HD 97 have been identified as some of the unhealthiest due to a lack of access to healthy food options, exercise, and healthcare facilities. The need to address these issues with thoughtful and well-rounded solutions is imperative to the future health and well-being of the District and Oklahoma as a whole.
Medicaid Expansion was voted on by Oklahomans and it should be properly implemented for the people of Oklahoma to have access to adequate healthcare.
Reforming Criminal Justice
Oklahoma is #1 in the world for incarceration of women and #3 in the nation for the incarceration of men per capita. In an effort to curb mass-incarceration, we must be proactive in solving the root causes of crime and rehabilitate non-violent offenders. That means expanding pretrial diversion programs, ending cash bail to avoid turning county jails into make-shift debtors prisons and funding community programs and resources.
